Thank you for everyone who participated at the “Presidential Candidate Forum On Asylum And Immigration” hosted by Amnesty International USA and partners on February 20th, 2020. We were joined by then-Presidential candidate Tom Steyer, surrogate Minnesota State Senator Melisa Franzen (representing Amy Klobuchar), surrogate Faiz Shakir (Bernie Sanders’s campaign manager), surrogate Congressman Joaquin Castro (representing Elizabeth Warren), and surrogate Nevada State Senator Yvanna Cancela (representing Joe Biden). All presidential candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties were invited to participate in the forum. If you would like to watch the forum – please find the embedded video below.

Presidential Candidate Forum on Asylum and Immigration

Following the Democratic debate in Nevada and just ahead of the Nevada caucus, Amnesty International USA (AIUSA) and co-sponsoring organizations will be hosting a presidential forum that takes a deep dive into one of the defining issues of the election: immigration. As a state with a vibrant immigrant population, Nevada is an ideal setting for a conversation on how its voters, residents and the country will be affected by immigration policy in a new presidential term. Amnesty International USA has extended an invite to all Republican and Democratic candidates. The forum will provide candidates and voters, including AIUSA members, an opportunity to address the many complicated facets of immigration policy and to allow the candidates to publicly take a humane stance on immigration that upholds human rights.
